Seen any sleek, fast-moving silhouettes in your local park? Lost any pets recently? Had your newly installed catflap mysteriously smashed to smithereens? Could it have been an ABC?

Perhaps you should check out The British Big Cat Society, where the very real possibility of deadly predators roaming the country is explored in depth. This is no joke: there have been hundreds of reports dating back to the 1960s of unidentified feline objects, known today as Alien Big Cats or ABCs, in the UK. The sightings have prompted full-scale searches by police and military teams of areas like Bodmin Moor, and only last month, London Zoo confirmed the capture of a female lynx, which a Golders Green resident had spotted sitting on the wall of her back garden.

Browsing the site, youll be able to read about the history of ABCs here and abroad, and find out how it could be possible that pumas, leopards and jaguars are free in places like Surrey and west Wales. If youre at all squeamish, you might want to avoid the Evidence for ABCs in the UK section, as it includes photos of attacks on horses, people, and a rather haunted-looking dog.

The site also features a big cat guide, so that you can learn to identify a caracal or a cougar if it crosses your path. If you think you do make a sighting of a potential ABC, the site gives you the opportunity to submit your details - presuming, of course, that you survive the encounter.
