Site of the Week

Insectia http://www.insectia.com/

This week we enter the world of Georges Brossard, French entomological expert and France’s answer to Nick Baker, as he introduces us to his series of wildlife documentaries on insects.

Delve into the site and you’ll soon find detailed material from each of the 13 episodes, the subjects of which range from insect evolution and natural history to insect aesthetics, insects as food, and insects in human culture. Peruse the episode guides and you’ll be able to read up on some extraordinary insect stories, as well as see clips from the programmes themselves. The ‘Star Insects’ and ‘Spotlight on…’ sections feature top-quality images of all manner of entomological activities, and present plenty of background reading for those who want to read as well as watch the movies. What’s more, the ‘Travel logs’ section goes through the making of the series, giving an insight into what goes on behind the scenes.

What more could you ask for? Learn about some of the world’s most amazing insects, find out about the secrets of wildlife documentary-making, and, as site is available both in English and French, you can even brush up on your linguistic skills while you’re at it. Tres bien, as they say in France.
