The Mammal Society http://www.abdn.ac.uk/mammal
Your cat is a mammal, and so are you - but if you want to know more about the rest of the mammals in Britain and how they’re doing, then take your mouse (another mammal) and click on down to the Mammal Society website. There’s a massive amount to keep you interested - more information on mammals than you could shake a scat at (you’ll even find out what a scat is) and it’s all easy to read and fun to look at.
The Mammal Society’s aim is to promote the conservation of Britain’s mammals, and educate people of all ages about them. They manage to cater for a wide range of interests - everyone from young and upcoming zoologists to established enthusiasts will find friendly, down to earth info, and there are tons of ways to get involved. Find out how to take part in a national fox survey, or the garden mammal survey which wants to know what you see out and about in your own back yard.
As well as helping to increase our knowledge for conservation purposes, the Mammal Society’s research makes fascinating reading - their recent survey into what Britain’s cats are dragging in, for example, is well worth a look, even if just to reassure yourself that your own cat isn’t some kind of freak psycho killer.
On top of all this there’s a bundle of links to other mammal sites, free fact packs and pictures of your favourites, and access to serious scientific publications for those who need to get seriously scientific.
