The Wildlife Trusts website http://www.wildlifetrust.org.uk
If you’re looking to help your local wildlife, or you want some all-encompassing UK wildlife info, then this is almost definitely the website to go for. It covers all of the regional wildlife trusts, so as well as being able to get hold of all the information you could possibly want for your area, there’s that great feeling of power as you peruse the clickable-map. I wandered all the way from Cornwall to Suffolk, effortlessly up to Scotland and then back down to London - and, amongst other things, found out about local conservation campaigns, hundreds of guided wildlife walks, and the many opportunities to get out there and get involved. This week (5-13th June) happens to be the Wildlife Trusts’ Wildlife Week - and with events like rockpool rambles, guided bat tours and mini-beast safaris, they’re looking to recruit more helping hands of all ages than ever. All the details are conveniently gathered for you in here. Each of the regional sites is different, some are less than utterly inspiring, but there’s something interesting everywhere. The larger than average London site, for example, has a brilliant wildlife facts section which is full of great stuff on everything from urban foxes to the recent stag beetle survey.
